Last lesson - Perfecting your Blog work for the Creating an App Unit

Last lesson - Perfecting your Blog work for the Creating an App Unit

This is your last chance to make all your Blog posts really good and detailed to get the best marks.  I need you to do the following tasks:

1.  Make sure you have no Blog posts saved as Drafts and not Published for this unit.  Publish them if you have!

2.  Make sure all your Blog posts have App Inventor screenshots and an explanation of what programming you have added that lesson and what it should do (this can be done as a linked & shared Google doc or directly on to your post - I don't mind which you do).

3.  On a new Blog post for this lesson, write an evaluation of your work this unit:
a) Did your app turned out as you expected?  If not, what was different and why?
b) Describe any problems you and your group had with your programming and how you solved it.
c) Describe what went well with your programming - what you are proud of in your app.
d) Describe any features of your app you'd like to improve if you had more time and why you'd like to improve them.
e) Describe any new skills you have learned in App Inventothis unit.
f)  Publish!

Ms W's Python game Unit 13

Yes, I do have a go, myself!!

Here is an image of the flowchart I drew out before I started programming my game.  It's vital that you do this so you remember what the choices are and where they take the player!

Here is the link to my Codeacademy Python game......

Modelling Lesson 5 - assessment!

Modelling - Lesson 5 - Assessment!
What you need to do

1.  Go to Learning Computing - Lesson 5 - Assessment.

2.  Click on the link to the assessment task presentation.

3.  Work through each Task in turn.  Task 1 (Level 4) written work should be written directly on to your new Blog post for this lesson.

4.  For Tasks 2 - 4 involve creating a spreadsheet (Google Sheet) to set out the data given on slide 3 and to add formulas and formatting to it.

Hint: Remember to format cells for currency (use Format menu) where appropriate and you'll also find conditional formatting in there for Task 3.

Minimum values can be found using =min(highlight cells in the range you are using to find this out) and then Enter.

5.  Task 5 answers should be written underneath your table on your spreadsheet.  Think about the variables you could change on your Lemonade simulation and how those ideas could apply to this scenario.

6.  Check out the mark scheme on the last slide and compare your work to this to make sure you can get the best marks possible.

7.  Share your spreadsheet correctly and copy/paste the link to your Blog post under your written work for Task 4.

8.  Click Publish!
If you do not finish this lesson, please finish over the weekend ready for me to mark on Monday!  Thank you :-)

Last App Inventor lesson

Last lesson on App Inventor

You need to spend the first 40 mins of the lesson working on trying to develop your app further.  Use the hints from the previous 2 blog posts here if you've forgotten what you're doing.

For the last 20 mins of the lesson, you need to screenshot your work and paste to a Google doc titled the same as this blog post.  Under each screenshot you need to write notes explaining the additions you've made to your app programming and what you would expect to happen if it was being used.

Under this, you need to put a sub-heading 'Evaluation' and write at least one sentence on each of the following points:

  • Any good points about using App Inventor to create an app

  • Any bad points about it

  • Anything you have learned in this unit

  • Any improvements/developments to you app that you would have liked to have done if you'd had more time or devices.
Share correctly and paste the link to a new Blog post titled the same and Publish!

Unit 11 - Networking Lesson 4

Lesson 4 - work that needs to be done!

In lesson 3 we learned about how files are broken down into packets when it is sent over a network.

There are 2 ways of sending the packets - circuit switching and packet switching.

In order for computers to be able to send and receive information (data) on a network, they need to have an IP address.

1.  Find out what IP stands for, what an IP address is and why it is needed.  The link below may be useful (however, other websites are available!).

2.  On a new Blog post for this lesson, write down what you have found out about IP addresses and why they are needed for computers on a network or using the internet.

3.  Find out the equipment that is needed to set up a basic network of 5 computers that can connect to the internet.  List the equipment and how it is used (what it's needed for) on your Blog post.

4.  Linked in with IP addresses and networks, can you go back to the presentation for Lesson 1 in this unit when you had to explain why setting computers up as a network was a good idea for businesses.  Make sure that you have finished this presentation and that you have included diagrams for each type of network design (topology) - bus, ring and star.  Make sure you have written down the advantages and disadvantages of each design and why one you'd recommend to use.

5.  Make sure you have shared and linked this presentation correctly and that the Blog post it is pasted on to has been published.

Make sure all work for this lesson and previous ones is finished and published.  Any unfinished work is to be finished for homework

1.  Have a go at the quiz.  You need to score at least 4/6!

2.  Open up a new Blog post and title it the same as this post.

3.  Write a description of how information is sent around a network as packets. Try and link your explanation with work we've done before on binary, etc - get those level 6 grades!!

4.  Explain the differences between circuit switching and packet switching.

5.  If you wanted to hack into a network to steal information, which type of switching (circuit or packet) would be the hardest for you to steal useful information?  Explain why.

6.  When you have finished this, click Publish!

If you don't finish this in the lesson, please finish it for homework

1.  Go to Learning Computing, Unit 11 Networking, lesson 2.

2.  Open the teacher's presentation and read through each slide.  Go through the slides in overview format, don't click the 'Present' button as you need to read the notes on slides 8 and 9 for extra info (normally I'd tell you this info as I went through the presentation in class).

3.  Ignore the 2 video links on the lesson as these are no longer available on YouTube.

Instead, click on the link below to go to BBC GCSE Bitesize for a page on more information......

http://www.bbc.co.uk/education/guides/zh4whyc/revision/7
